I help my students master their audition material—whether it’s sides, a song or a monologue—so that they can walk into their auditions feeling fresh, prepared and confident. My sessions are relaxed, yet serious, as I help each student to achieve their individual goal. I pride myself on creating emotional and intellectual connections with my students, and I coach each of my clients as individuals. I’m not creating carbon copies. I want to bring out the best “you” that you can be. As one of my favorite coaches Beckie Menzie says: “You don’t need to be perfect, you just need to be perfectly you.“ Most casting directors and directors that I’ve spoken to (myself included) are looking for natural, real people in their casting, so I try to bring out the natural, real person in you. I’m interested in helping my students, young and older, explore their vulnerability, take risks and to trust their instincts. In a private session you can expect to leave feeling prepared and ready for your audition and/ or performance. During your session we will discuss intention and specifics about the scene/song and explore character. I will help you trust that what you are doing is right. We all tend to over-complicate and over-analyze the work we have to do on scenes. Less is more!
I have been a professional actor, director, choreographer and casting director.
I worked professionally as a “triple threat” in productions regionally, and I also performed on the national tour of Show Boat. I pride myself on being a great understudy, swing and dance captain. As an understudy I was lucky to perform the roles of Maria in West Side Story and Eva Peron in Evita.
I have directed successful shows including Joseph at The Paramount Theatre and the Jeff Award winning A Class Act for Porchlight Theatre. My production of Music Theatre Works’ Carousel received four stars by Chris Jones in the Chicago Tribune.
My private students have had huge successes. One of my students was on Broadway in On Your Feet, and on the National Tour, while another one of my private students won The Illinois High School Musical Theatre Award in 2017 for Best Actress.
I have great instincts about what directors and casting directors are looking for in their talent. I have knowledge of the Chicago acting industry and I can answer all your questions. Let me guide you.
